Bondi Paws sells a short list of gear for dogs that spend their weekends in sand and salt water. Not a catalogue. Six products, each picked because the coastal version of the problem is harder than the suburban one.
Most pet stores compete on breadth. Hundreds of listings, dozens of variations of the same thing, and no real opinion about which one you should buy.
We took the opposite approach because we kept running into the same problem ourselves. Gear that was fine for a walk around the block fell apart the moment salt water and sand were involved. Zips corroded. Fabric held a smell that never washed out. Foam went hard.
So the question we ask about every product is narrow: does this still work after a summer of beach trips? Most things don't. The six that do are what we sell.
Salt is more aggressive than mud. It degrades stitching, corrodes hardware and stays in fabric long after the water has dried. Anything with untreated metal or unsealed seams doesn't make it.
If a product has to come inside and go through a wash cycle, it stops getting used by about the third weekend. Everything we sell can be hosed or wiped at the tap and put straight back.
Cars parked in the sun get to sixty degrees inside. Gel, foam and coated fabric all behave differently at that temperature, and we've dropped products because of how they aged in a hot boot.
The measure isn't how something performs new and dry. It's whether it still does the job with a soaked, sandy, impatient dog standing on it.
